I attended Berklee for a semester and left. Why? Disappointment and money. I went there thinking I would be inspired by all kinds of new ideas and being pushed to the limit with the competition there. Competition? Maybe egos are more like it. I ran into more people that were hackers than could play. I met lots of people that just started playing their instrument within six months of attending Berklee. The faculty is not as bad ass as it once was either. The best teacher to hook up with if you're a drummer is Rick Considine. He is this loud mouthed New Yorker that talks sh%* and gets down to your level. Makes all the BS you have to go through at the school worthwhile. I also enjoyed in my Harmony class. The exams are a joke as well. HOWEVER! I plan to return and graduate with a Music Business. Why? Because I feel that the hackers that are there could become my boss one day if I don't do something about it. Hopefully I can get an internship through Berklee that would lead to a job that will make me happy. Right now, I go to school full time at the University of South Carolina (whoopee...the business credits transfer for some courses at Berklee...making it cheaper...I also have my general education requirements done at a 2 year college...I highly recommend this if your budget is limited) and work part time at a law firm (very exciting...)The law firm gives me the drive to not end up like those people that work there. The movie Office Space is a perfect example. I want to enjoy what I do and have fun at it. The people at the law firm have degrees from USC, and look at them...miserable...that's the motivation to get through the crap at Berklee that will hopefully lead me in the direction of a job I will enjoy getting up and going to do everyday. It's a longshot and a huge investment...I will return this May.
